Biography

Robert is Professor of Thoracic Oncology in the Department of Oncology, University of Cambridge and Honorary Consultant Respiratory Physician, Royal Papworth Hospital. trained in respiratory medicine in Edinburgh and London receiving his doctorate from the University of Edinburgh for work investigating mechanisms underlying resistance to chemotherapy in small cell lung cancer. 

Research

Robert’s research is focused on clinical trials and translational biomarker research in early-stage lung cancer and malignant mesothelioma.  He is also Chief Investigator for Mesobank UK, the UK national bioresource for malignant mesothelioma (www.mesobank.com) which he founded in 2014.

Other Professional Activities

Professor Rintoul is a member of the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Clinical Expert Group and is currently Chair of the Clinical Advisory Group of the UK Lung Cancer Coalition.
