Professor Rebecca Fitzgerald receives the prestigious 'Jane Wardle Prevention and Early Diagnosis' prize from Iain Foulkes, Executive Director of Research and Innovation at Cancer Research UK/CEO of Cancer Research Technology.
This prestigious prize recognises individuals who have produced world-leading research in the field of prevention and early detection of cancer.
As Professor of Cancer Prevention at the University of Cambridge Department of Oncology, Co-lead of the CRUK Cambridge Centre Early Detection Programme and Honorary Consultant gastroenterologist at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Rebecca and her team have developed the innovative Cytosponge test to detect a pre-cancerous condition of the oesophagus known as Barrett’s oesophagus, a condition that can increase a person’s risk of developing oesophageal cancer.
