Department of Oncology

 

My responsibilities are:

Scientific Administrator

  • Collation of data for various scientific reports, including Clinical School Biennial Review, National Institute for Health Research Cambridge Biomedical Research Centre Annual Report, annual Researchfish returns and Research England Research Excellence Framework (REF) submissions.
  • Departmental Open Access Champion; advise staff and students on funder and publisher open access policies.
  • Departmental Researchfish Node Administrator; responsible for co-ordinating annual Researchfish submissions.
  • Research Impact Champion; involves advising and assisting researchers in showcasing the scientific, medical and educational impact of their work. 
  • Symplectic Elements Administrator; oversight of researcher data and outputs, including publications, funding, supervision and outreach work.

Postgraduate Administrator

  • Manage all aspects of the postgraduate student lifecycle, from application to completion of the degree.
  • First point of contact for prospective postgraduate Students, clinical research training fellows, interns, and visiting students. Involves advising on queries about application processes, funding and visas.
  • Handle all application related issues, such as processing applications, ensuring Supervisor eligibility, occupational health clearance checks, addition to University payroll, and research passport applications.
  • Co-ordinate departmental nominations for various postgraduate funding competitions, such as the Cambridge Gates Scholarships and Clinical School Doctoral Training programmes.
  • Monitor termly supervision reports and take appropriate actions when concerns are raised.
  • Advise and support postgraduate students and their supervisors on all education related matters, including University Student Registry and Clinical School policies & procedures; student registrations and progress reporting; and changes to student status, such as intermissions and deferrals of thesis submission.
  • Provide data and information to internal and external bodies, such as the Student Registry, The School of Clinical Medicine, Oncology Management Team, departmental administrators, and UK Research Councils.
  • Keep abreast of current University, School and UK Higher Education policies and update the Departmental Director of Postgraduate Education and Postgraduate Administrative Assistant to ensure departmental compliance.
  • Produce, review and maintain all departmental postgraduate education documentation, including Postgraduate Education handbooks, supervisor agreement forms and student progress monitoring forms.
  • Maintenance of student CamSIS and personnel records, ensuring GDPR compliance.
  • Member of the Cancer Cluster Postgraduate Education Committee; oversees postgraduate education in the Department of Oncology, CRUK Cambridge Centre and CRUK Cambridge Institute. Attend and present at termly meetings.
  • Departmental Student Disability Liaison Officer. Attend regular University Accessibility & Disability Resource Centre meetings and provide advice and support to  both students with disabilities and their supervisors.
  • Deputy Responsible Officer for student complaints. 
  • Provide pastoral care for students for personal or study related issues.

Webmaster 

  • Design and maintenance of the departmental website, ensuring compliance with University policies and guidelines and website accessibility standards.
  • Responding to website queries from both internal and external sources.
