The Department of Oncology is a multi-site department based mainly on Cambridge Biomedical Research Campus, with additional sites South of Cambridge.


Travel to Cambridge

By Rail

Cambridge is connected to a number of mainline train stations including London King's Cross and London Liverpool Street. For more information, visit the National Rail Enquiries website. There is a taxi rank at Cambridge railway station and many bus routes also connect to the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

By Air

The closest major airport to Cambridge is London Stansted, which is about 40 minutes away by road and 35 minutes by train.

By Car

If possible please avoid driving to Cambridge, as the roads to and from Cambridge are very busy and parking is limited and expensive. If you wish to drive to our departmental sites:

  • Cambridge Biomedical Campus - parking is available but you will be charged per hour of your stay.
  • Strangeways Research Laboratory - limited parking is available by prior arrangement.
  • Wellcome Sanger Institute - onsite parking is available by prior arrangement.

Travel to the Biomedical Campus

The Cambridge Biomedical Campus is approximately two miles south of Cambridge city centre and a short bus ride from the Cambridge Central Rail Station. There is limited parking on site and we ask that those who are able, do not drive to the campus. Please see below for alternative methods of transport.

Train

There are frequent buses from the Cambridge Rail Station which take approximately 10 minutes. Visit Traveline to plan your journey. The Institute is a 30 minute walk from the Station.

Park and Ride

The Babraham Road Park and Ride service has a direct link to the Biomedical Campus. Plan your journey via the Park and Ride website.

Bus

The Early Cancer Institute is a short walk from the main hospital bus station at the Hills Road entrance to the site. The majority of buses pick up and drop off here.

Cambridgeshire Guided Busway

Take Service A which travels from Trumpington Park and Ride to the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, onto Cambridge Central Rail Station, the City centre and beyond.

By car

Visitors can park in public Car Parks 1 and 2 located on the Biomedical Campus. More information and tariffs can be found on the NCP Car Park 1 website.
